From your first collection entry through cloud deletion, here are the exact controls and data boundaries.

Get started

  1. Confirm adult eligibility
In Settings → Permissions & personalization, confirm that you have reached the legal tobacco-use age where you live.
  2. Begin with local records
Add cigars, lots, inventory events, tastings, and humidor readings. Core features need no Apple sign-in, location, or AI.
  3. Connect only what you choose
Enable image recognition, location weather, and cloud sync separately. Leaving them off does not block local records.

Tobacco and nicotine are addictive and harmful to health. CigarMind does not sell tobacco or encourage anyone to start or increase tobacco use.

Using AI image candidates

  1. Complete the adult confirmation and accept the AI image-processing notice in Settings.
  2. On the recognition screen, take or choose a sharp, evenly lit front photo. Keep people, addresses, and unrelated private details out of frame.
  3. CigarMind calls HY-Vision through its official API and returns up to three candidates. Review brand, line, format, origin, and the confidence explanation.
  4. Only the candidate you select and confirm is saved. If uncertain, discard it and enter the record manually.

AI is not authentication

Candidates, confidence, and generated explanations can be wrong. They are not proof of authenticity, valuations, health conclusions, or purchase advice. Verify box codes, years, and provenance against reliable physical records.

Manual photo entry and duplicate prompts

  1. Open Collection, choose Add manually, and enter at least the brand, model, and quantity. A photo can be captured with the camera or chosen from the photo library.
  2. The app re-encodes the photo and removes EXIF/GPS on-device. As you enter brand, line, model, or vitola, it compares against the on-device collection and 30 verified catalog products and shows possible duplicates—never an authenticity conclusion.
  3. If a possible duplicate exists at save time, you explicitly choose whether to merge into an existing collection item or create a separate record. Local saving remains independent of catalog loading or network availability.
  4. Contribute a catalog candidate is off by default. It can be separately enabled only after Apple sign-in, adult confirmation, a photo you took, and complete catalog fields. The service receives minimized fields and a photo digest, not the photo. A successful contribution can be withdrawn from collection details.

Handle voluntary contributions before clearing

If a catalog contribution has not been withdrawn, the app blocks local clearing or deletion of its record so the withdrawal credential cannot be lost. Sign in to the same CigarMind account used for the contribution and withdraw it from collection details first.

Local storage and optional cloud sync

Cigars, lots, inventory events, tastings, humidors, readings, and recognition history are stored locally in SQLite by default; manually added photos remain in the app-private directory. Settings and consent choices use device preferences; the installation identity and signed-in session use iOS Keychain.

Concierge → Account & cloud offers optional Sign in with Apple. Once signed in, structured collection, tasting-journal, and humidor records can sync to CigarMind's MySQL service; photo binaries are not uploaded as sync records. If you separately volunteer a catalog candidate, the service receives only minimized product fields and a sanitized-photo digest—not the photo, location, inventory, price, or notes. Signing out removes the session from that device but does not delete cloud records or local SQLite facts.

Location weather and local notifications

Location weather

Settings → Permissions & personalization → Location & weather personalization is off by default. When enabled, the app reads current location only while you use the relevant feature or refresh, then requests current weather from Open-Meteo. Revoke permission in the app or iPhone Settings at any time; local collection remains available.

Notifications

Humidor-condition alerts are scheduled locally on the device and follow the temperature and humidity ranges you set. Turn on Allow notifications in the app and approve the iOS prompt. If denied, use iPhone Settings → Notifications → CigarMind. Turning off the in-app master switch stops new alerts; system permission can be revoked separately. The public release has no tasting-time reminders.

Export and clear local data

Export

Open Settings → Privacy & data → Export collection & journal. The app generates eight-table versioned JSON—including seven core fact categories and local catalog-consent records—plus collection and tasting CSV files for the iOS share sheet. Exports omit image binaries and redact recognition media paths by default. Save them only to a destination you trust.

Clear

Open Settings → Privacy & data → Remove from this device only and confirm. This irreversibly deletes the seven core fact categories, catalog-consent records, and app-managed photos while keeping display, permission, and notification preferences. It does not delete the cloud account. Export first.

Apple account and cloud deletion

Concierge → Account & cloud lets you sign out from the current device or permanently delete the cloud account. Deletion is different: the service first revokes Apple's authorization for CigarMind; only after revocation succeeds or Apple confirms it is already invalid does the service remove the account, sessions, and sync records.

If Apple revocation is temporarily unavailable, the app states that the account remains and asks you to retry. Successful cloud deletion does not clear local SQLite facts; use Settings → Privacy & data → Remove from this device only if desired. See the full Account Deletion guide.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use CigarMind without Sign in with Apple?
Yes. Collection, inventory, tastings, humidor records, export, and local notifications are local-first. Sign-in is only for the account and optional cloud sync.
Why was the recognition result not added automatically?
That is intentional. AI produces candidates, and only your explicit confirmation writes a fact, keeping errors out of the trusted collection.
Does CigarMind keep my recognition photo?
The CigarMind API is designed not to write the image to disk, cache, or request logs. It processes the image for the current request and forwards it to the visual provider, whose own terms still apply. See the Privacy Policy.
Does location track me in the background?
No. It is off by default and requested only while you use the feature or refresh. Raw coordinates are not written to the collection database or used for advertising.
Will CigarMind prompt me to use or buy cigars?
No. The public release has no active cigar-selection or tasting reminder, purchase link, store referral, or price comparison.
Does uninstalling erase everything?
No. It does not delete the cloud account, and iOS may preserve Keychain items. Export first, then delete the cloud account, clear local facts, and sign out in the app.
Does this website use cookies or tracking?
The official support site has no analytics, ad trackers, or marketing cookies. The server may retain minimal access logs for security and reliability.
